This is a Call for Submission for a great cause.

Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart is open to all authors.

Editor Delilah Devlin is looking for stories for a special project to benefit the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.

Recently, six Diamond State Romance Author chapter members spent a weekend falling in love with the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge and its exotic inhabitants. The refuge is home to large cats and a variety of exotic animals that would otherwise have to be put down because they aren't suitable for placement in zoos or to be returned to the wild. The need for financial support was apparent. Our chapter decided to pool its resources and find a way to help.

What we propose is to produce a volume of short stories, all centered around animal in need of refuge. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to the Turpentine Creek Refuge. We will edit the submissions, seek professional cover at and formatting, and assist the refuge by uploading the anthology to online bookstores like Amazon's Kindle store and Barnes & Noble's Nook store. Additionally, we will help upload the book to CreateSpace so that printed volumes can be available for sale in brick-and-mortar bookstores throughout Arkansas and inside the refuge's shop.

This is an international call for submissions of short stories to be donated for the cause. Only the best stories will be accepted. All genres of fiction (contemporary and paranormal, sweet adult romance and Young Adult) will be considered. Please keep in mind that stories must be PG-rated as the book will be two-sided: one side geared toward adult readers and the other toward teenaged readers.

Examples of the kinds of stories we seek:

A maimed Iraqi war veteran learns to accept his disability by working with equally damaged animals.
A teenaged girl helps a were-cougar his his true nature while both hunt for an escaped cat.
A teenaged couple encounters a tiger encounters a tiger escaped from its private owner's cage and work together to find help to capture and care for it.
A pushy animal psychic must gain the trust of the refuge's veterinarian to help a depressed bear.
A troubled teenager discovers a tiger living in a national forest, the seeks a way to prevent locals staging a hunt from killing it.

How to submit: Prepare your 1,500 to 4,000 words story in a double spaced, Arial, 12 point, black font Word document with pages numbered (.doc, NOT .docx) OR rich text format. Indent the first line of each paragraph half an inch and double space (regular double spacing, do not add extra lines between paragraphs or do any other irregular spacing). US grammar (double quotation marks around dialogue, etc.) is required.

In your document at the top left of the page, include your legal name (and pseudonym if applicable), mailing address, and 50 words or less bio in the third person to dsrawildatheart@gmail.com If you are using a pseudonym, please provide your real name and pseudonym and make it clear which one you'd like to be credited as. Authors may submit up to 2 stories.

About the editor: Ms. Devlin has published over one hundred stories in multiple genres and lengths. My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this story. The wounded and recovering Beth and her boys, who were not annoying or taking over the story. The plainly played a part in Beth and Daniel's love story.

I love Daniel who is just so emotionally yummy, and physically of course. But its how he is toward Beth that really pulled me in. He was soft and gooey inside but still a tower of strength. He had no problem falling in love, it even felt like he was looking forward to it.

I have to admit I cried near the end too. I won't give away when or why, but oh how my heart hurt for Beth and Daniel. It was perfect.

Francine Larrabee woke up on the wrong side of the century. She was fairly certain she went to sleep in her own comfy bed, but she doesn’t quite seem to be there now. Only adding to her problems is that she has no voice, is constantly being glowered at by a large, stunning man who is obsessed with propriety, and she is apparently betrothed to another horrid little man, determined to ruin her, and any other girls that get in his way.
How does she find herself in the past, when she couldn’t even find herself in her present? How does a self sufficient businesswoman survive in a time when women were still considered property for the whole of their lives and what is she going to do with this man who draws her to him so fiercely.

My Thoughts:
I really like this book. I like that its serialized. I like getting this first glimpse of Francine and Gideon. That I get to wonder what happens next, (yes I read the original and I know what happens... whatever. I do what I want).

I'm enjoying the time travel aspect. Curious to see how it plays out. I want to see Gideon un-starch his nickers. Relax a little. Like when he was at the fountain. *sigh* A man letting down his guard even for a moment makes me melt.

I also want to see Francine fired up again. She's got spirit and spunk. Let it loose girl.

Overall, great start to what I think will be an explosive relationship and book.

Oh and I forgot, which I'm surprised about really, the pictures throughout and at the end..... so damn good.

Here's the list. Yeah, I know you can just click on the tab and check it out but I thought I would list it here.

I completed my Goodreads goal of 150 books on October 21st. I'm not sure if I should up my goal for 2012 or not. I could aim for another 50 but I'm not sure how busy I'll be with the authors I'm working for. Plus I really want to at least get one book edited and the next written.

As for the eBook challenge I hit Monomaniacal, 100 ebooks, in July then continued on to read another 53 ebooks. With eReaders becoming so popular I wonder if this challenge will change. Upping the number of books it takes to hit Monomaniacal.

December is over and so are the reading challenges I took part in this past year. I have to say I did pretty well. This is the first time I've kept track of everything I've read. But I'll leave that to another post.

This post is all about my December reads. I read 16 books to finish out the year. Absolutely no print books. I read a few not so great books and two that were great. Like surprise me, you should totally read, great.

Firefighter Under the Mistletoe and Wife For a Week surprised the hell out of me at how much I enjoyed them. I laughed and cried and that isn't usually me.

I was disappointed at how much I didn't like The Naughty List. There was so much promise that didn't deliver. I was left feeling cheated. As for the other two 2/5 books they were short and not really good. They were quick sex filled reads that just didn't satisfy.

The PA Side

As you are probably aware I'm working as a personal assistant now. There is a groovy little list on the side of the blog with links to the authors I'm working for. I'm really enjoying the challenges each of them presents.

Hands on everything or finger touching just a few things I'm all for it. I like organizing and making lists. Helping keep track of schedules, setting up guest blogs or blog tours. It makes my brain happy to see things laid out so the author knows what they have planned and what they can add or not add to what they already have on their plate. Its a funfest of organizational goodness.

In the never ending quest of building up my personal assistant portfolio I have been thinking of creating another site. Compiling the services of people I work with and putting it all in one place. One stop shopping so to speak. Use 1 or a few or all.

Before I can do this though I need something to call myself. Yes, personal assistant works but how blah. My friend Fatin goes by Novel Sidekick. Excellent name. She's clever like that. She offers great services and if I'm not your cup of tea I highly suggest you check out Fatin.

So I'm on a name hunt. I've already thumb downed some but I'm going to list them anyway. Its a fun game.

Its the holiday season and you know what that means. Shopping and cooking and working. Cramming everything that needs to be done into the day without killing yourself.

That's been me these past few weeks. Juggling everything and still finding the free time to hang out with family and friends.

I've read a couple more books. One which I would highly recommend. WIFE FOR WEEK by Kelly Hunter.

I received a fabulous gift from Mel. A Kindle Fire!!! Love it but still not sure where to start. So many things to check out and do.

2 of the authors I work for are going on vacation very soon. I told them to give me to-do lists and there wasn't too much. I like to stay busy and earn my keep. I can't help it.

I'm getting together with Photographer Jenn LeBlanc tomorrow. We need to go over photo shoot things for this weekend.

T is also TDY this week. He's out in Maryland doing his Army thing. The boys have been sick and today the dog isn't feeling that great. This is what he gets from eating something out of my trash.

And that's about it. Random talk and updates from me. Hope you all are doing well. Read some good books and enjoy the season.

Oh Ms. Knupp how I love you so. Well not in a creepy way but in a way that says you write a DAMN GREAT book.

We've had our one little problem together. Not a real one between us where you pulled my hair or anything like that. But you have a series called The Texas Firefighters and I loved the first book. Then I read the blurb of the second book and the third book and was wondering why everyone was running away to this one place. I was feeling iffy about the whole thing but read books 2 and 3 and you know what? You were right. This magical place filled with beaches and hot firefighters is the perfect place to take off to. This is where I admit I still need to read book 4. I have it and in print. Don't worry. I'll be reading it and soon I think.... hope *looks at Color Nook filled with 1600 books*.

Anyway, back to BECAUSE OF THE LIST and your greatness. Cause that's all I can say. It was GREAT!!!!! I believe I did say on twitter that you can rock a book too. Ohhh I cannot express my love for BOTL. To borrow a phrase from Rachel Zoe you "shut it down". It was "bananas".

My Thoughts:

Fantastic!! I will never doubt you again Amy Knupp. You created a great story line. The pacing was spot on. The characterization fabulous. I felt for Taylor and bonded over never feeling like you fit in. I ached for her being tired of being an obligation to everyone and how she just wanted to be loved for who she was. I understood Alex feeling like a failure in his Army career and felt the pain of his injuries and how he didn't want anyone to see it.

(My husband is in the Army and had a fairly bad accident overseas. He was lucky to not have been hurt more than he was. His physical outward injuries have healed but the emotional pain and back injury are still affecting his life.)

I got why Alex wants to heal and the drive and determination to get back out there for the friend he lost. To do what he friend could no longer do.

I was brought to tears so many times by Ms. Knupp I was sure someone in my house was going to ask me what's wrong. That's how awesome of a book this is. I felt like I was going through everything with Taylor and Alex.

There you have it. BECAUSE OF THE LIST has to be one of my top 3 favorite books this year.

See I posted about not getting to read yesterday and I finally did. Thank goodness for finding the quiet time.

My Thoughts:
3.5 Stars

I have NOT read the previous version of this book so I will not be commenting or comparing between the two. My experience of this book is of this new version only.

My overall opinion.... I liked it. Liked the characters. Liked the story line. Was intrigued enough that I will read the rest.

Blake is a stubborn ass which I adored. Jaxi, though young, I connected with her. Liked her and was impressed that she went after the man she's been dreaming of for just about forever. The family dynamics was wonderfully written and I almost had a heart attack when it came to the parents and that one scene I won't ruin for you.

But I had a few nagging thoughts. There was almost a secondary story line going on with Blake's brother Matt. At first I thought it was a little peek into what would be coming in the future but then he kept getting separate parts in the story. I wasn't thrilled with that. It took me away from Blake and Jaxi. Plus I really hated the way Helen tossed Matt around emotionally.

The other nagging part wasn't bad I'm just not sure about it still. Blake and Jaxi finally get it together and it seems like it should be the end of the book but then he decides to woo her. This take up the last third of the book and I kept wondering, since I was told it was expanded, if this was the expansion. This is totally my issue and not the author's. It was well written and I liked where the story went. My brain just wouldn't let me enjoy. Plus I'm with Jaxi on this one, he really didn't need to woo her. He just needed to get his head out of his ass.

Oh and I still can't figure out the positions at the pool table when they are playing Challenge. Probably because I can't play pool. lol Another me problem, not the author's.

So there you have it. I liked this story. Will read more of the series. And give it a 3.5 rating because of a few blips on the radar.

It was a roller coaster of a month for reading. I read oh-so-bad and fan-freakin-tastic.

For the oh-so-bad Jaymie Holland's SOLD. I just couldn't wrap my head around any of it. Heroine. What can I say. I just didn't like her. She's wary of being a submissive but has spent years dreaming about it but with one man only. The man magically shows up and she drives head first. Constantly telling us that "she's read up on it". I'm sorry reading and doing are two separate things. She also tells us that the hero is hot. She can't believe how hot her is. He's so sexy. Oh his butt. Oh his body. *GAG* I didn't think he was hot or sexy. He might have been but I never felt it.

TRUSTING THEM was another book I was disappointed in. And I hated that I was disappointed. It was my 150th read of the year. My Goodreads goal book. I really wanted to like it. But I just couldn't. Not when they took care of the big bad ex-husband by the middle of book. I was left wondering about the second half. Speculated a bit and was proved correct. The heroine and the 2 heroes danced around refusing to have an honest conversation about what they wanted. That was the ENTIRE second half. *sigh*

My fan-freakin-tastic book was Melissa Schroeder's A LITTLE HARMLESS SUBMISSION. Now I know what you're thinking. "You're her PA Brandy. Of course you loved it." Well let me set you straight. I don't have to love her books. I have a mind of my own and just because I'm working for someone it doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion. What kind of person would I be if I can't tell someone their book sucked or needed work? I want the authors I work for to succeed and put out the best possible product.

Anyway, I loved Submission. I'm so happy Mel has decided to self-publish more of the Harmless series. I don't get why she didn't get more support from her previous publisher but its their loss and our gain. Rome and Maria are so great together. The chemistry. The suspense. The falling in love. I mean who doesn't drool over a dominant man diving head first into the unknown and scary world of love.

It was a much better print month for me. Four of them. Can you imagine the shock on my hubby's face when you saw that. lol He is forever telling me to read the print books I already have.

You may notice the Gia Blue reading binge I went on. These are those short erotic reads that hit on taboo subjects but they aren't as taboo as you think. Young girl who has the hots for her step dad or ex step dad or step brother that isn't related by blood and they really didn't grow up together. They're short and hot and I bet Gia Blue is making out like a bandit on them. I saw good for you.

Something else I wanted to mention were two print books. HER SON'S HERO and STRANDED WITH HER EX. Both are Harlequin brand books. Both were ones I won. And bother were really good.

HER SON'S HERO focused around an MMA fighter (love that) and a single mom trying to raise her son the best she can. Her son gets picked on a lot and the MMA fighter hero tries to help out. This book touched on bullying, physical abuse and the misconception of the violence surrounding MMA fighters. Vicki Essex did a wonderful job of dealing with each part and putting together a well written, enjoyable story.

STRANDED WITH HER EX was a romantic suspense. Why I don't read more of them is beyond me. Jill Sorenson hooked me first with a hero who is a shark expert. Then with a mystery that totally pulled me in. I wasn't sure who was doing the dirty deeds and was surprised by the 'who done it'. One thing I did wish for more was a better explanation of why the villain did what they did. It was talked about but I needed it kind of summed up in little words I guess.

I realized today that I am behind in my wrap posts.

August wasn't a big reading month for me. Kids went back to school early in the month. Running around was done getting the rest of the school supplies and last minute clothes shopping. There were also a couple of birthdays. Hubby's. Brother's. Mine.

I'm on my last book for my Goodreads goal and I'm not even motivated to finish it. How sad is that?

I picked a signed print I received from RomCon11 directly from the author.

I was pleased when I started but by the middle of the book the bad guy ex has already been dealt with. There' still half a book to get through! What's going to happen? Is there a possibility he's going to escape prison and come after her again? One can only hope.

I don't know yet but from what I can tell about the second half, there is a simple miscommunication between the heroine and the two heroes. They want her to stay. She wants to stay but none of them are speaking up.

I'm going to be disappointed if they could have just sat down over a cup of coffee and sorted things out.

The one thing giving me a little hope is talk about another blizzard but I'm not sure what that will accomplish unless someone comes after her again.

I'm really concerned about the rest of the book. *sigh*

I'll get it finished maybe today. I have a meeting with the fabulous Jenn LeBlanc at noonish. I'll be taking my two boys with me which will be interesting. She doesn't have boys.

I will meet my Goodreads goal with 6 more books. I'm so excited. I'm not sure when I'll do it. Could be this month. Could be the next. (Higher likelihood. I'm switching between my reading self and writing self again.)

I wasn't sure how many books I could read in a year. I've tried to keep track before but it just fell to the wayside. I was using a very pretty journal and would forget half the time.

With Goodreads I'm using the Currently Reading feature and making sure dates are in there for the books. Sometimes I leave reviews for the books I've read. Generally only if something stands out.

I know there are people out there who HATE Goodreads. Some people love it. Some are indifferent. I, personally, like it. I track my books. I follow authors and readers. I review books I've read, not the ones I haven't. I'm sure I don't use it to its fullest potential but I'm happy with it.

Recently I was on there reviewing Myla Jackson's THREE'S A CHARM. I couldn't find the edition I read so I just stuck it on the Kindle version that showed up.

After doing my voodoo on that I thought I would add the one I read. In the process I found another version. Not connected. With no cover. I was irritated. I went to combine them and found it wouldn't let me. Said I had to be a librarian.

So that's what I did. I applied to be a librarian on Goodreads. Promised to not change something unless I knew it was correct and all that good stuff.

I got the approval and I'm now a Goodreads Librarian.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. As you may or may not know I work for Melissa Schroeder as her Personal Assistant.

In the midst of getting her organized to my way of thinking (don't fret she's on board) it was decided that she needed a pretty Facebook page. One with tabs to pages that contained all sorts of good stuff.

I took it upon myself to figure it out. No, I do not have formal training. Wish I did really but I'm a smart cookie and was able to get it done. And quite well if I do say so myself.

During this journey of all things code Mel was approached by some people (I don't know who) about her pretty pages. She in turn told me I should think about doing it for others.

So here I am thinking. I enjoy doing it so its a realistic idea to offer my services. Though they may not be vast, I will do my best to figure it out. Like a mission I can't help but complete.

I have a price in mind for initial set-up regardless of the number of tabs/pages wanted. The part I'm still working on is update fees. There would have to be a contract. To cover me and the client since I would need to be made administrator of the page while working on it.

I hope to have everything figured out this weekend and put in motion something by Monday.

This book is a part of the Granite Lake Wolves world.

My Thoughts: That above statement. The part about BLACK GOLD being part of the Granite Lake Wolves world. I didn't know that until I just copy and pasted that up there. I have to admit it didn't take anything away from my reading and understanding. Though I will now be going back to the Granite Lake Wolves and checking them out. Apparently you meet Shaun, the hero, in the Granite Lake Wolves books, somewhere. And now my idea of him is skewed. I'm wondering if I would have understood him more and my thoughts about this book would be different if I had read the other series books. Hmmmm..... this is something to investigate.

Shaun was meant to be this rough and tumble, outdoorsy, cussing, hell-raiser that doesn't like to take responsibility. He kind of came across like right in the beginning but the mushy 'I need to find a mate' thing that followed tossed some ice cold water on that image.

Gem was a smart, coddled princess visiting the area to do some research and learn to handle things on her own. She's Southern, rich and out of her element. At times she's comes across as naive and snobby, which I didn't like. And even though the author repeats the color of her soft brown skin often, it wasn't until a character calls her black that the image clicked in.

The chemistry between Shaun and Gem was supposed to be explosive. The scents of each other making it near impossible to keep their hands to themselves but I didn't really feel it. I read it, but I didn't FEEL it.

In the end the entire story of Shaun and Gem felt like a way to lay the groundwork for the rest of the series. Which I will say I'm interested in. The secondary characters held more of my attention and sparked questions I wanted answered.

So while I wasn't enthralled by the book, I did enjoy it. I'll be on the look-out for the next Takhini Wolves and checking out the Granite Lake Wolves.

My Thoughts:
LOVED IT!! Those are my thoughts. I loved this book. I connected with the characters. Understood their strife. Wished I could frolic on the beach with some damn hot men with Aussie accents. Straight up enjoyed every aspect of the book. Oh, and totally would have wanted to get with Paige too if I'd seen her in that maid's outfit. She was smokin'!

The only part I just couldn't imagine was the description of the couch/chair thingie. My poor brain just couldn't wrap around it.

Update: I did a quick search and I'm wondering if it looks like this. (warning explicit images if you follow the link) Tantra Chair In case your wondering it comes in different colors too. Oh and there is a slideshow of the different positions. Hot damn! I totally need one of these.

Based on this one scene in the book I'm gonna go with this as the picture in my head. I may even go back and read the scene now.

My Thoughts:
Great start to the series and you can't go wrong with it being a free book. I loved Kylie. A strong independent woman having a fantastic time with three men. Sure they each said they didn't mind her seeing the others. But in the back of her mind she had to wonder. I probably would too. The beauty was, they really meant it and actually wanted to take it a step further. Being a foursome.

You get the idea all of the men love Kylie and she loves them back. But what I really enjoyed was how it was the beginning of the relationship. Knowing they were just starting out on the path to finding out if the four of them are going to have a Happily Ever After together. Which I believe they will but it was refreshing to see them declaring their love and committing to making it work.

As a side note: This book sets up the background location for the other books. But thankfully doesn't overwhelm you with too much. You get enough to get an image in your head so you can enjoy the setting and the rest of the story.

Also, while I'm sure you can read these as stand-alones. I would recommend reading them in order. You will have a better grasp on the other characters that will pop up later. (as mentioned before I have already read book 2, PARADISE FOUND)

RomCon11 Wrap Day 3 - aka Sunday

Did you notice I actually did two posts in a row? I know its shocking but I'm trying to wrap it up.

Final day of RomCon. Sunday. The Birds of a Feather event, the awards presentation, brunch the Rumble and shipping (that didn't happen).

There were a few things going on Sunday morning. A couple of Intimate Chats. I didn't have tickets. The Arbonne makeover. I meant to do but got side tracked. And by sidetracked I mean take Mel to the airport.

She had an early-ish flight and needed to be at the airport before 0900. I scooped her off and spirited her away. Making it back in time for the BIRDS-OF-A-FEATHER READER DISCUSSION. This was hosted by the lovely ladies Heather Sands & Melanie Sands, The Book Reading Gals. Authors were invited to come but as readers. Since the purpose of this event was talking about books. It was a blast. Another of the few shining moments of great Con events.

Heather had everyone talking about series they loved hitting on just about everything. That woman is a wealth of information when it comes to, well just about everything. Her SIL Melanie just shook her head a lot and laughed. They did tickets and raffled off bags to attendees. The more you spoke up the better your chances since you got tickets for participating. I won a great bag topped off with goodies. Thanks ladies!!!

Brunch was tasty. Buffet style where you picked up your food in the hall then found a seat in the giant room. I sat with people I didn't know but that didn't bother me. We eat, clapped at appropriate times during the award presentation then moved on to other things.

The UPS Store people were supposed to be there in the morning but come to find out, since I have my sources, they lost money the day before just sitting there waiting for people to ship stuff. So they decided to get to RomCon at noon. Not helpful for me but whatever. I'm local and there's a UPS Store near me. Which happened to be the one at RomCon. (Did you connect the dots? lol)

I waited around for the RomCon Rumble cause I had to know what that was all about. Good concept. Could use some tweaking. I don't like being timed for how long I visit. Most of us are courteous enough to know when to move on to another author. I also don't like being shuffled like cattle.

I chatted with Shelley Bradley/Shayla Black, Sophie Oak, Sylvia Day, Abby Gaines (LOVE HER), Beth Williamson/Emma Lang, Bernadette Marie, Melissa Mayhue, Robyn Carr ( I just had to know about the Virgin River Series and if it had to be read in order. The answer is no.)

I, of course, sat down with Deeanne Gist. I have mad love for her. She was my surprise read. I could not express enough how much I loved A BRIDE IN THE BARGAIN.

I'm sure I'm missing others. It was a few weeks ago and I have a hard enough time remembering what I did this week.

RomCon made special trading cards for the authors. There were two sizes like there was a strange misprint. I grazed tables and collected a healthy stack. Grabbing extra for giveaways that I will do through my new job as PA.

And that was it. RomCon was over. I went home and got the kids ready for the first day of school the next day.

RomCon11 Wrap Day 2 - aka Saturday

Yes I'm so far behind its silly but I thought I'd still do a quick recap of the rest of RomCon11.

Saturday started with a call from T asking if Mel and I wanted to meet for brekky. I said sure and got ready. By the time I was out of the shower and dressed Mel was ready to go. Unfortunately Mel ended up with a migraine for the day so she was pretty much out of it.

Getting her settled in her room I went to see what was up for the day. There was limited seating for the HISTORICAL AUTHORS' VICTORIAN FASHION SHOW and they made up tickets to pass out in a first come first serve format. Grabbing a ticket I hung around until it was time for the show to start.

I have to say the FASHION SHOW was one of my favorite events at RomCon. If you ever get a change to attend it you should. Put on by the terrible adorable Deeanne Gist it was a parade of super cute outfits modeled by historical authors. There were a few parlor games where I won a book and cover flat from Melissa Mayhue. Then they started the second hour in which they dressed Deanne in everything a woman in historical times would wear. Totally popping the bodice ripping bubble people think of and write in historical novels.

There's no way the hero can, with a flick of his wrist, get the heroine out of her clothes and ready for naked tango time. Just not going to happen.

Leaving the FASHION SHOW, which was 2 hours but totally didn't seem like it, I have no idea what I did. I think that was when I checked in on Mel and attempted to find Ben-Gay for her upper back muscle spasm issue. The 2 convenient stores and the hotel quickie-mart didn't have it. Not so convenient if you ask me.

I got back in time to help set up and attend the CONTEMPORARY READERS TEA. I wish Abby Gaines could have talked the entire time since I love her accent. She's from New Zealand if you didn't know. She's friendly and lovely. I could just grab her and add her to my Pocket Author collection.

Out of the tea I ran to Walmart for previously looked for meds then helped out at the EROTIC AUTHOR MIXER. They played Mango, which is like Bingo but with hot bodies on the bingo cards. That was over a bit quicker than I thought it would be.

I left after checking on Mel one more time and met up with T at Frontier Club. Our dive bar that we frequent a ton. LOVE THEM!!!

I slept in my own bed that night. Missing out on a few events I thought about attending but didn't. The FAB FIVE COCKTAIL HOUR and the RomCon BLOGGER & REVIEWER PARTY.

It was strange cause the next day I didn't hear anyone talking about either of those events.

That was my Saturday in a nutshell.

RomCon11 Wrap Day 1 aka Friday

Yes its been a few days since I last checked in here. I meant to have the blogs written up but shiny things distract me easily. I'm sure y'all understand.

So RomCon Friday which was the official start date. I woke up bright and shiny (not really but let's go with that). Rolled out of bed and got ready for the day. As you will recall I went home the night before.

Lots of things were on tap for the day. Getting to the hotel and walked around a little bit checking out who was up and at em. Which I have to say wasn't many people. I'm certain I was there before 0800. At some point I went to @MelSchroeder's room to check in with her. I planned on going to the WELCOME TO ROMCON at 0900. That wasn't on her to-do list. She had breakfast and got ready for the day while I was listening to @SueGrimshaw and @MicheleCallahan.

After the WELCOME I hooked back up with @MelSchroeder and we walked around. I wasn't too interested in any of the morning events. Since this was my 2nd year going I didn't feel the need to rush to every thing there was to be had. I went for a more relaxed approach.

Eventually @MelSchroeder and I caught up with @TheGeekyBlogger and we went to lunch at MacAllister's. Love that place. We chatted about the difference in the last year's conference and this year's.

Back at the hotel I helped set up the EROTIC AUTHOR PANEL then stayed hear what they had to say. All of the authors answered questions from the audience but damned if I can remember anything beyond that.

At 1600 @MelSchroeder took off to stuff bags for the EROTIC AUTHOR MIXER that was happening the next day while I went to the HISTORICAL READERS TEA. This was a free ticketed event so only 75 RomCon attendees could come in. I helped set this one up as well. I picked a spot and had a great time talking to Authors @JKLeBlanc and Robyn Dehart. You see each author sat at a table with the readers and we got to chit-chat with them. I think they were supposed to rotate out but whatever. It didn't happen. (Sorry no pictures of this event from me)

Busting a move after the TEA was over I scampered back to @MelSchroeder's room and grabbed the swag for her LITTLE HARMLESS LUAU which started at 1730. It was like a cocktail hour. There was a cash bar, swag bags and food. I did a little running back and forth to the room for things we forgot and each time the line to get in was longer and longer. The bartender was nice but creepy, the readers were swag bag happy and the food wasn't that bad. I did find out that the hotel reused the food @MelSchroeder had at her event for another event the next day. So not cool. The authors paid for the food...twice. Someone, somewhere pocketed some money.

After breaking down the LUAU we headed to the WILD WEST DINNER hosted by Beth Williamson and a couple of other authors. Another ticketed event, $35. By this point I was pretty much useless. I did see the horse you could sit on and try to rope the rolling training calf. There was a mechanical bull and Old West photo booth. All I really wanted to do was sit and eat. Which I did get to sit and the food was crap in my opinion. The salad was good and the peach cobbler with ice cream was good. Everything else in between was questionable and not worth the $35. Oh and there were line dancing instructors. That was fun to watch.

After the dinner we had one more event CHOCOLATE MANGASM. Ticketed, $15. If I go to RomCon ever again and they have this event, I won't be going. There were games I didn't want to play and I thought there would at least be a chocolate fountain. It was too loud. Too annoying and not what I wanted to do after everything else. But I paid the $15 so I was determined to go.

I think @MelSchrodeder and I went to the room around midnight and didn't go to sleep until around 0130. A note about the rooms in the hotel. Worst bed ever. Hard and uncomfortable. They wouldn't stay cold. The a/c went on and off like every 5 minutes and there is a really strange smell to the place. Like it used to be smoking and they can't get the smell out.

Pre-Game RomCon aka the day before

I know I wrote a quick blog about RomCon Eve but that was before I actually did anything. Now I'm going to give you the run down on what I actually did.

Heading out around 1330 (1:30 PM for you non-military folks) it took me a whole 10 minutes to get to the convention site. (Yes, I live that close.)

Arriving I got my first greeting from Laura. She twittered from the @RomConInc tag. She is the nicest, most helpful woman I have ever met. If she didn't know the answer she would find out for me. Thank you, thank you Laura. (She has a new Twitter tag @mysmicker)

Heading inside we hooked up with @JKLeBlanc (Jenn LeBlanc), @RomancingRakes (Katie) and @JamieLynn831 (Jamie). I registered and we hung out until it was time for them to take off & do whatever it was they needed to do.

While waiting for @MelSchroeder to get in, I stuffed bags with @SylDay, @AuthorSophieOak, @Shayla_Black and a few others. Nothing like playing a strange version of ring-around-the-rosie stuffing bags with authors you love to read.

I wasn't as nervous this year when it came to meeting and talking to authors. I guess I took comfort in being in the same hotel and knowing my way around from RomCon10.

Bags stuffed I took off for the airport to pick up my friend. We decided to eat before heading back to the hotel choosing Ted's Montana Grill. Love that place. After dinner we got Mel checked in and unloaded all of the swag and gear in her room. Stuffed the 'special' bags for the Harmless Addicts then headed out to the bar. Where not much of anything was going on.

After a Mountain Dew I decided to head home. I had a long day ahead of me so it was best to get some sleep.

RomCon Eve

For me, I actually consider today RomCon day 1. I plan on helping out with some bag stuffing from 2-4. Do my early registration. See if I can early register Melissa Schroeder. Then pick Mel up at the airport.

Todd will be taking the kids to school for Open House night. He needs to drop paperwork off for GirlChild. Get her locker and drop supplies off. Then he'll be heading to the boys' school to get their class assignments, drop off supplies and pay a technology fee.

But that's all him.

RomCon is about me. My time to hang with friends and meet new people. Maybe find a new author to try. Last year that ended up being Deeanne Gist. I loved the book I bought and had her sign.

A lot of RomCon attendees are flying in today and I can't wait to see them all. Hopefully I'll be better this year about putting up posts and pictures. lol Only time will tell if I do.

July Wrap

July seemed to drag for me which is just crazy. My in-laws visited for 9 days. School shopping happened - supplies and clothes. I started working for Melissa Schroeder. Though we're still both trying to get on track. Her parents visited her so we were out of pocket during our respective family obligations. And I've been prepping for RomCon 2011.

You would think with everything going on I would be frazzled and behind on my reading. But never fear I've ready plenty this past month.

19 books total: 2 print/17 ebook
and 3 of those books I just had to shake my head at. 2 of the questionable books are from the Harlequin Romance line. Both Promoted: Something to whatever. Both had me captivated by the shear ridiculousness in the writing and story.

I'm also 117 books into my 150 book goal for the Goodreads Challenge.

eBooks and the various places they live in my house

Yesterday I sat down to try and figure out how to get 2 books from my old original Sony PRS-500 reader to the Classic Nook with 3G & wifi.

First I didn't know if it was possible. A little research and a question or two on Twitter and I had my answer. Yes it could be done. (But don't even think about doing it the other way around. Not gonna happen).

I had to download the Sony Reader Library to the Mac. Then remember by password. I clicked into my account and lo and behold.... I had 321 ebooks hanging out.

Really? 321 ebooks I already bought and had lounging around in the Sony library. I'm sure they felt lonely and abandoned. I promptly downloaded to Mac, drag and dropped onto an SD card and get them over to the Color Nook.

GirlChild got the books she wanted on the Classic Nook and I now have 321 more books for the Color Nook.

It got me thinking though. Where else do I have books stored in the house? Print books give you the luxury of being right there. A physical being to remind you. eBooks... not so much. They can hide in nooks and crannies. External hard drives. Various website libraries. Random folders on god knows how many computers and laptops. The are everywhere just lurking in the shadows. Only to be a vague memory of "I thought I already had that book".

I don't know what my plan is about looking for more ebooks. I thought I had them all but apparently not. I was pleased to find books that I thought I had but just couldn't remember where I had them.

What do you do to keep your ebook library together? Are you like me and have switched eReaders and have ebooks all over the virtual house?

Concentration primarily focuses on the lesbian relationship, although ménage and secondary m/f depictions will be permitted. First off news about me. Recently author and my good friend, Melissa Schroeder asked if I'd like to be her PA. Nooo, not physicians assistant. Her Personal Assistant.

I'll be handling her contests, appearances (so contact me if you'd like her to visit your blog sometime), and in general the stuff that lets her keep writing non-stop (in her dungeon with only bread and coffee to keep her going). Trust me, we want her to write - a lot. She has a ton of great stories planned that I really want to read.

Another bit of newsy stuff is Social Media for Social Good 2011. The blog is up and running. What are they trying to raise money for - the famine in Africa. Specifically Save the Children.

The in-laws are still here. They'll be taking off Saturday late afternoon. Its been a good visit but OMG I'm so tired. I didn't think we were going to be out running around as much as we have. My feet are killing me and dear god my hip joints are revolting.

I did manage to get a book read yesterday. ONE NIGHT, TWO HEIRS by Maureen Child. I enjoyed it. A nice departure from the chaos going on around me. Cause what is a visit without one of the kids not getting sick? Zman spent the better part of a day throwing up and sleeping then another day sleeping, even though we did go out. He slept on my lap at the restaurant. Waking occasionally to ask about fries before heading off to la-la-land.

It was a good reading month in general for me. I am 65% of the way toward my 150 book goal on Goodreads. For those of you not interested in working out the math like me, that means I've read 98 of 150.

One book I was surprised I didn't like more was ANY GIVEN SUNDAY by Mari Carr. I found it predictable and I just wasn't interested, especially in the Hero. I think part of my problem was that he was in the first book as a teenager and I couldn't make the transition to adult. Others have loved it so I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it. It just wasn't for me.

I think this has been my one of my better print book months as well. My best being March. This month tied with January. There is one print book that I need to rave about. A BRIDE IN THE BARGAIN by Deeanne Gist. I LOVED it. It is labeled an inspiration historical romance which is not my preferred genre but I have to say I am so glad I took the time to read it. It had everything a great story needs. Likable characters (lumberjack Hero, intelligent & capable Heroine), great not your typical setting (1860's Seattle), and a love story. I highly recommend this story to anyone but don't come looking for sex scenes and explicit material. The only action going on is a kiss or three and some intimacy behind closed doors.

So I won't be around. If I was cool and on top of my game I'd have posts all lined up. But these days I've been sucking at this. Freakin summer and kids and my other self have kept me busy.

I will say 'Other self' finished her edits and sent last 4 chapters to friend. She tried working on something else but it just isn't clicking. Not sure what she's going to do... oh wait her in-laws are coming.

Anyway, in-laws get here Friday the 1st and fly back out the 9th. Hubs is taking leave this Wednesday through the Wednesday after his parents leave.

Given a picture of a man on a horse, wearing Wranglers, chaps, and with a broad-rimmed hat shadowing his face, women melt.

Even when he’s up to his knees in mud freeing a calf from a wallow, his image doesn’t tarnish. The imagination sparks, filling in the details—the scent of horse, cow, and crisp, clean sweat; the sight of sun-leathered skin and crows feet; the feel of work-hardened thighs and arms; and the sound of a deep-voiced, Texas drawl.

The Cowboy will seek stories that satisfy the reader who craves the romantic idea of that gruff, capable man while exploring stories in the American West as well as lesser-known international settings. The stories will be primarily contemporary with the possibility of a few historical Westerns. A Reading Dilemma

Yes, a dilemma. There's a series I've been reading. 7 books in total. So far I've really enjoyed them all and I'm finally at the 7th book.

Yay me! But boo too.

I'm really not interested in the final book. I can guess what happens. I've never really been interested in the hero. And I kinda just don't want to read it.

So what's the dilemma you ask? I really should read it. I have read all of the other books in the series. It will HEA the last member of the family BUT I don't really care.

I'm such a bad reader thinking this but the longer I sit here the more I don't want to read it. *sigh*

I want to just pretend I read it, put it back on its digital shelf and move on to something else.

So far I've skimmed through the pages and things are going exactly how I think it will. I wouldn't call it predictable but I could see this as the road it was going to travel.

What do I do? Force myself to read it? Skim through it all? Or just put it away?

Scaling down: Print Books

It was bound to happen I think. The number of print books I have has been slowly dwindling. Though not fast enough for a certain someone in the house but that's a different story altogether.

I absolutely love ebooks and my eReader. The convenience, the ease of ordering, the access to millions of books with the touch of a button. I adore it all.

I can carry however many books I want and not worry about space in my purse or bag or luggage. If I happen to be in the mood for something I don't have an easy search will no doubt find me something just right.

Also if you've notice my reading list for the year. Only a handful of books have been print. Not that I made a conscious decision to only read ebooks but that's just how its worked out.

In light of my reading habits I've gone through my print books and have taken out the ones I know I won't read. I'm sure at some point I thought I would but I haven't as of yet and I keep buying books shoving the older ones further and further down the line.

The ultimate goal is to get rid of print except of course for my keeps and collections. To become an ebook only reader.

Because of this scaling down I will be giving away a few books here that are author signed. No they aren't personalized to me. I keep those regardless. But they have the author's signature and sticker on front.

Also what books don't get pick up on PaperBack Swap will be given away on here as well. I had planned to donate the credits on PBS to the Military Donation Program for the United Through Reading Program but they have already met their quota.
